The title of the Mass is a variant of a Latin tongue-twister, filia sub tilia nebat [or: nectit] subtilia fila (“beneath the lime tree, the daughter spun [or: binds] the fine threads”). The cantus firmus is subjected to mensural transformation, in the manner made famous by Domarto in Missa Spiritus almus.
